Our Mission is to connect young Black adults to mental health resources in DC and eradicate the stigma around mental health.
Our Vision is to create a world where those of the African Diaspora have access to excellent, affordable, and culturally competent mental health treatment.
Founder
Noah Dyson graduated from Elon University in 2024 with a degree in Psychology and minors in African and African American Studies and Communications. While at Elon, he held leadership roles in the Black Student Union and the Center for Race, Ethnicity, and Diversity Education. Noah is passionate about mental health in the Black community, a passion reflected in his research, which explores the experiences of African American transitional-aged adults navigating the grief process following a mental illness diagnosis and how it impacts mental health service utilization. He is also the creator and host of The Love Catalyst Zone Podcast. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Noah is a proud alumnus of School Without Walls SHS.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health:
Sixteen percent (4.8 million) of Black and African American people reported having a mental illness, and 22.4 percent of those (1.1 million people) reported a serious mental illness over the past year.
Suicidal thoughts, plans, and attempts are also rising among Black and African American young adults. While still lower than the overall U.S. population aged 18-25, 9.5 percent (439,000) of Black and African American 18-25-year-olds had serious thoughts of suicide in 2018, compared to 6 percent (277,000) in 2008.
